An unsung hero in the body’s day to day activities, the lymphatic system has many jobs. Swelling reduction, clearing out toxins and foreign substances, absorbing nutrients from what we eat, regenerating tissues, and protecting the body from microscopic invaders are just a few. For a deep dive, check out this 10 minute video: Lymphatic System: Crash Course
The structure of the lymphatic system is similar to our circulatory system. It is a complex network of vessels, nodes and organs. The lymphatic system and the circulatory system both move fluids throughout the body. The cs moves blood and the ls moves a clear fluid called lymph. To keep our blood flowing, the circulatory system relies on the heart pumping. The lymphatic system, however, has hundreds of tiny muscular units lining its vessels that contract as needed to transport the lymph.
Lymph Drainage Therapy
Ideally the lymphatic system works silently in the background, keeping our bodies in perfect balance. Sometimes life events happen that slow, stop, or mis-direct lymph flow, causing issues. Surgery, injury, burns, infections, even stress and fatigue can impact the health of the lymphatic system. This can cause swelling, joint problems, muscle stiffness, digestive issues, chronic infections like sinusitis, just to name a few. When this happens, Lymph Drainage Therapy (LDT) can help.
LDT is a gentle hands-on therapy that works to activate lymph fluid circulation. The goal of LDT is to strengthen and restore the lymphatic system to optimal health. It treats the body as a whole: organs, tissues, and lymph. There is a subtle rhythm, direction, and quality of movement for this system. LDT therapists are trained to identify stagnation or other hinderances and determine the best alternate pathways for directing the lymph.
We cannot provide treatment when an acute infection is present as there is a risk of spreading it further. We do not treat Lymphedema.
Lymph Only Sessions
15 minute sinus treatment add-on to any full length service for $35
30 minute sessionfor $65
45 minute sessionfor $95
60 minute sessionfor $120
90 minute sessionfor $170
Lymph Drainage Therapy and Massage
LDT and massage make a great team. LDT alleviates fluid stagnation, which encourages waste products to clear from the tissues. This means when massage is applied in conjunction with LDT, knots release more easily, muscles soften with less pain, and joint mobility improves.
